The church of Trondenes is located about 3 km north of the center of Harstad on Trondenes, a historic place with traces back to the Viking Age. The year of construction has until recently been set at around 1250, but recent research rather than the fact that the church is of recent date. It was probably completed around 1440. The church is built in an area where it used to be wooden churches from the 1100s.
